This page contains information about installing the latest HP Bluetooth driver downloads using the HP (Hewlett Packard) Driver Update Tool.
HP Bluetooth drivers are tiny programs that enable your Bluetooth hardware to communicate with your operating system software. Maintaining updated HP Bluetooth software prevents crashes and maximizes hardware and system performance. Using outdated or corrupt HP Bluetooth drivers can cause system errors, crashes, and cause your computer or hardware to fail. Furthermore, installing the wrong HP drivers can make these problems even worse.
Recommendation: If you are inexperienced with updating HP device drivers manually, we highly recommend downloading the HP (Hewlett Packard) Bluetooth Driver Utility. This tool will download and update the correct HP Bluetooth driver versions automatically, protecting you against installing the wrong Bluetooth drivers.

I own an HP G71-340US laptop (Windows 7 64-bit) and recently installed an ASUS bluetooth adapter USB-BT400. The bluetooth software installed easily enough and Windows indicates that the adapter is working properly. However, the laptop is not able to connect to any other bluetooth enabled devices. My Samsung cell phone is able to find the laptop via its bluetooth, but cannot connect to the laptop either. I have checked the drivers and the bluetooth settings and the bluetooth services and all are set up as recommended. So now I am wondering if the HP G71 is equipped with the necessary hardware to enable bluetooth connections or do I need to consider replacing the ASUS bluetooth adapter with a different brand. Thanks.

HP G71-340US: ASUS bluetooth adapter does not connect to bluetooth-enabled devices

Hi:
Did you install the ASUS bluetooth driver and software? If not, here it is...
Windows only installs a generic bluetooth driver and normally that is not enough to have the bluetooth work.

Yes. I called ASUS technical support and they directed me to their driver downloads.
Here is what I have on the laptop:
Device: ASUS USB-BT400
Part #: BCM20702A0
Driver provider: Broadcom corporation
Driver date: 11/17/2014
Driver version: 6.5.1.6000

HP G71-340US: ASUS bluetooth adapter does not connect to bluetooth-enabled devices

By all indications, the BT should be working since you have installed the Broadcom bluetooth driver.
To answer your other question however, no, there is no additional hardware or software needed for your notebook to run bluetooth from the external usb adapter..
It should be working right now.
The only other suggestion I can offer would be to see if this HP Broadcom bluetooth driver works for you. It also supports the same bluetooth hardware...
This package contains the Broadcom Bluetooth driver and software for supported models that are running a supported operating system. Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Driver is required to enable Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 devices and is compatible with Broadcom Bluetooth 3.0 and earlier versions.

I downloaded the sp72617 file from the link you provided. But when I tried to install the file it gave me an error message that stated 'The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted.' Is there another link to this file that I can use instead?

Interesting...I have given that file to dozens of forum members in the past.
See if the next version after that one works.

If not, here is the link with the driver revisions. You can try any of the newer ones beyond the one you currently have installed.
If you get the driver installed and still don't have BT, then I would have to assume that there is something wrong with the BT adapter if you can't test it out on another PC you have.
ASUS puts their name on good hardware, but I guess once in a while you can get a bad one.
Broadcom is certainly a leader in wireless hardware.

Hp Bt400 Bluetooth Driver/ Download 32&64 Bit Versions
Youre very welcome.
I agree. There must be something wrong with the adapter itself.
I bought this Broadcom based BT adapter, and it works just fine.
Now you did go into the bluetooth settings and make your PC discoverable, correct?
BT won't automatically connect unless you enable the settings in the program.

HP G71-340US: ASUS bluetooth adapter does not connect to bluetooth-enabled devices

Yes. I made sure that the 'Discovery' box was checked each time I installed the bluetooth software.
Question - how does the Kinivo adapter compare to the Plugable adapter which is the #1 Best Seller on Amazon? Any real differences between the two?

There wouldn't be much difference, IMO.
They both use the BCM bluetooth radio.
The Plugable brand is a low energy model, but I don't know how that compares to the one that I have, which does not state that it is low energy.
I would say that the Plugable model is newer technology. I've had mine for a few years now.
